Topic: Cultural Stereotypes: Their Origins and Consequences

Overview

This research essay will examine the origins and consequences of cultural stereotypes. The paper should explore how stereotypes are formed, reinforced, and perpetuated through media, education, history, and social interactions. Students are expected to analyze the social, psychological, and cultural impacts of stereotypes on individuals and communities, and present a well-researched discussion supported by credible academic sources, following MLA formatting guidelines.

Assignment Requirements

1. Word Count:

Minimum of 500 words (excluding the Title Page and Works Cited page).

2. Formatting Style (MLA):

Follow MLA (Modern Language Association) format throughout the document.

Use 12-point Times New Roman font.

Double-space the entire paper.

Maintain 1-inch margins on all sides.

Include a running header with page numbers in the upper right corner.

Structure

The essay must include the following sections:

Title Page

Introduction Paragraph:

Introduce the topic clearly.

Provide background on cultural stereotypes and their historical development.

Present a strong and focused thesis statement.

Body Paragraphs (Minimum of Three):

Analyze the origins of cultural stereotypes.

Discuss the social, psychological, and cultural consequences of stereotypes.

Provide examples from different communities, media representations, or historical contexts.

Support arguments with credible academic research.

Include proper MLA in-text citations.

Conclusion Paragraph:

Summarize key arguments.

Reinforce the thesis statement.

Offer thoughtful insight into strategies to challenge and reduce harmful stereotypes.

Works Cited Page:

Include all referenced academic sources.

Format citations correctly according to MLA guidelines.

Research Requirements

Use a minimum of 3–5 credible academic sources (scholarly journals, books, or reputable academic websites).

Include accurate MLA in-text citations for all referenced ideas and quotations.

Paraphrasing is encouraged; avoid excessive direct quotations.

Originality & Plagiarism Policy

The essay must be at least 80% original.

All borrowed material must be properly cited.

The final submission must be free from plagiarism.

Submission Deadline

The completed assignment must be submitted no later than 20th February 2026.

Late submissions may result in penalties unless prior approval has been granted.
